Looking for Business VoIP Providers?

As high speed and the use of internet connections are becoming more commonplace in houses across the United States of America, folk are asking themselves can VOIP calling save me hard cash on my phone debt? To answer this question you should probably take a deeper look at voIP calling and the expenses associated with taking the plunge with VOIP.

VOIP novices pay attention: When you make a VOIP call it works by converting the voice signal from the phone or hand-set into a digital signal and transferring it back over the internet. Your signal is then converted back into a voice signal (or digital /anaglogue voice signal) and comes out of your headset or earpiece (or even a voip softphone) on the other end. By transferring the signal over the internet it doesnt matter how far it has to go, a call to your neighbour would cost the same as a call to your relatives in Europe. For those of us who have telephone bills that are over 30 dollars, VOIP calling may be able to save your a fortune!..

When evaluating VOIP providers you should have an idea of your monthly calling volume. Probably the best thing you can do is take a glance at your phone bill for the last quarter year and work out how many minutes you've used, or would normally use.. If you use less then about 7 hours a month you will find VOIP calling plans that are much a lot less than your normal telephone bill. If you if you use over 50 hours a quarter you'll probably find unlimited call plans might be more cost effective in the long run. If you have relatives or business contacts that you call overseas, double check see if those type of calls are included in the plans you are looking at..

VOIP Equipment and deciding on a provider

Some VOIP providers require that you update your telephone equipment. The key to the VOIP system is VOIP router. It connects your broadband internet access to your voip phone system. Some Voip routers only interface with newer VOIP phones, meaning that will have to buy new equipment and or a new broadband or ADSL modem. This really becomes an important factor if you have more than one telephone or phone line.

Actually, there are a few different ways you can use VOIP. The method above is probably the most popular. I use this way myself and a lot of the residential and business providers out there today use this as well. There are few other ways you can connect with VOIP:

Computer to Computer VOIP

This is the fastest and possibly the most hassle free way to get plugged into VOIP. Here instead of using your normal phone or IP phone to make calls through your broad band connection, you use your computer itself! (If your a sucker for pain you could do this over dial-up, but broadband is certainly better). There are a number of services available that offer no cost or low cost service. To chat over you exising internet connection in this way you'll need a microphone to speak into, and speakers and of course your computer and a high-speed internet connection. Some voip providers offer this service for free when their software can only be used by people running the same platform.

IP Phone Internet Protocol Phones

As the heading might suggest, these are different to your regular telephone. You wouldnt know it just by looking at them. What is different about IP phones is the circuitry, and the fact they don't plug into a regular phone - an RJ-11connection. Instead ip phones take an Ethernet cable connection (RJ-45) and also come equipped with the necessary electronics to plug straight into modem/router.
