Engin is one of the chief Australian broadband telephone company which has now entered into the VoIP business. Initially VoIP technology was labeled as an expensive technology for which only large corporations could afford to invest engin now brings this same technology directly to the consumer household. engin provides the user to make and receive calls at a cheaper rate provided he has consistent broadband connection available to himself. The service is straightforward to use and is packed with a wide range of included features allowing the user to actively control their own calls. Basically, engin is a next generation communications carrier that is committed to establishing an novel customer experience. Users can experience an altogether new feel as engin proffers a unique experience to the phone user by providing a variety of included features, giving you a greater ability to control where, when and from whom you receive calls. Engin uses new SIP (session initiation protocol) technology, through which the calls are directed through the Internet rather than the plain old telephone system, the equipment used to facilitate this transfer is engin Voice Box which can be attached to an analog, cordless or DECT telephone, permitting you to make and receive calls as you normally would. Engin is a viable options for those who make frequent calls and engin doesn't restrict you to connect to other engin customers only rather it is compatible with landlines, mobiles and international destinations. Engin to engin is a FREE call, set your family and friends up on engin to get the benefit of FREE calls. As a user to get starting using engin is pretty four step stage: starting with placing an order for engin Voice Box, inserting Voice Box into your Modem Router, plugging home phone into the Voice Box and finally calling their customer service team on 1300-305-000 between 8am-9pm Weekdays or 9am-3pm Weekends (EST) for getting your engin service started. Engin Voice Box ($149) is the only initial start up cost. Engin is compatible with most of the modems and routers and their service provides the user with a simple plug and play setup, which is very convenient for the customer to use. If you are interested in an ADSL connection you will need to keep your existing phone service but if you have a cable service you will not need your existing phone service. Engin Networks uses your broadband Internet connection, which is separate from your basic phone service. Engin does not work with the dialup connection but works fine with broadband Internet connection such as cable or DSL service. And acquisition of a router or switch will allow you to use your engin voice service at the same time that you surf the Web. To use a switch you need to have a modem with routing facilities. In general, ADSL connections will support switches and Cable connections will not support switches. Currently engin does not yet offer Local Number Portability; instead you will rather be allocated a new number with your service but it is comprehended that Local Number Portability is expected to be available in the near future. Your engin voice service will not work if there is a power outage, as your engin Voice Box requires power to maintain the service. Moreover engin Voice Box has been firmware hard coded exclusively to engin and will not function with any other service providers. Though engin doesn't have support for LNP but can support up to two phone lines provisioned on your engin Voice Box. A second line will be charged at $9.95 per month plus call charges. Also engin provides it's customers wit eth provision of changing the rate plan by just calling their customer service team on 1300 305 000 to help advise you of a plan to better suit your needs. VOIP ENGIN offers a wide array of features Engin offers wide array of features that range from Voice Mail,V-mail, Turbo Dialing, Caller ID, Block Caller ID, Call Waiting, Call Return, Call Line ID, Three-way Calling, Speed Dial, Block Last Call, Block Anonymous Calls, Do Not Disturb, Call Forward Unconditional, Call Forward No Answer, Call Forward Busy No Answer, Address Screening, Address Screening with Redirect, Direct Group Dialing, Time of Day Routing and Time of Day Screening. It also has the support for emergency services in which calls to 000 will work but you must notify any change in the address so as to if you make an emergency services call your correct address will be identified. Engin is currently offering a fax service on a trial basis only and a fax service will need to be configured on line 2 of your Voice Box which is available for a once off fee of $4.95. Though user phone and computer will share same bandwidth but that does not restrict user to use the computer while on the phone, but occasionally if you are using applications require high bandwidth then user might experience degraded voice quality. Engin billing automatically charges from your credit card and an e-mail notifying you of your invoice is mailed on your anniversary date of each month. User view the billing information by logging on to their website, i.e. www.engin.com.au and go to customer care for which you will need to enter your customer account number and passcode to log in. Engin lets you to cancel their your service at any time for which you need to submit a written notice and your monthly service fee which is charged in advance and your calls which are charged in arrears. Engin also provides you with the Softphone, which is a multi-media application, and can be downloaded from their web site, thus enabling you to make calls direct from your PC or laptop. Softphone will require both speaker and microphone devices to make calls. Such devices may include external speakers and microphone, dual-jack multimedia headset, built in microphone and speakers, USB multimedia headset, or a USB phone. You will also need a soundcard for your PC or laptop. To sum up engin offers a unique customer experience by allowing the telephone user to always be in control of their account and to enter the engin customer care section you will be required to enter your account number and a passcode.
