However, there are few other ways you can connect with VOIP: PC to PC Connections This is the fastest and possibly the most hassle free way to get plugged into VOIP. Here instead of using your normal phone or IP phone to make calls through your broadband connection, you use your home PC (You could do this over dial-up, but broadband is certainly better). There are a number of services available that offer no cost or low cost service. To get started you'll need the software (or client) and a microphone to speak into, and speakers (or headphones) and of course your computer and a high-speed internet connection. Some providers offer this service for free when their software can only be used by people running the same platform. IP Phone Internet Protocol Phones As the name might imply, these are different to your regular telephone. You wouldn't know it just by looking at them. What is different about IP phones is the circuitry, and the fact they dont take a regular phone - an RJ-11connection. Instead ip phones connect with an Ethernet cable connection (RJ-45) and also come equipped with the necessary electronics to plug directly into modem/router.
